Ocean Beach prices in Baja

You were 'being had in Baja' because you only travelled 40 miles into it. Try riding your bike to San Quintin, or further. only travelling 40 of 2,500 miles of coastline of fish-loving folks with wasabi and soy in their bodegas seems a harsh judgement for one apparently unwilling to put in the time. pffft.

Hands if diving, or hoopnet only for recreational bugs from above the surface. Do not keep one if it get's snagged while fishing rod and reel either. Have your report card, gauge and license on hand if diving or hooping. Good trick, but worth a hefty fine.

Sportfishing vessels v. pangas

Knowing both sides of the line pretty well, I would think it might be prudent for those operators going south of the line to not allow their captains or passengers to enter into verbal conflict over fishing grounds they only have permission to access under certain guidelines. There are places down the coast, inshore and similar to the San Quintin fishery where they are no longer allowed due to over-stepping their permission. This needs to stop, and it might yet for this area, but as long as you are in the bigger vessel on the ocean, you pose the bigger threat. To act bullyish is simply disrespectful to the fishing community on both sides of the border. I hope, knowing most are informed and conscientious operators, the San Diego fleet operators will inform the captains and owner-operators using their docks, to obey the rules and observe common, and environmental, courtesy. I am trying to get more info from respected folks on both sides of the issue. So far, mum's the word from the SD fleet.

Comfortable outdoor bathing this weekend

I would say, maybe, "Ocean temps in the eastern Pacific are, especially at the beach in SoCal and for the third year in a row, above, if not well above, average. 76 degrees Fahrenheit in the surf is more akin to the semi-tropical waters 500 miles south of the border. The predicted La Nina following what seemed like two solid El Nino years back to back hasn't arrived in our area yet as coastal temps are a full five degrees Fahrenheit above the 'norm' for this time of year. Conditions at the equator and north are pointing to a return to the normal ranges by fall 2016, and 2017 is predicted to be a year more near the average for southern California water temps on and offshore."
