The San Diego Museum of Art is holding the first a monthly series of concerts on Thursday, January 15 at 7 p.m. The concert series is appropriately title The Art of Music. This opening concert features local choral group Sacra/Profana and is programed to explore music that contrasts the earthly experience with the celestial realm. Gidon Kremer & Daniil Trifonov

Also on January 15, at Sherwood Auditorium in La Jolla there is a concert with world renowned violinist Gidon Kremer and pianist Danil Trifonov. The concert is part of The La Jolla Music Society’s celebrity recital series and will also include a brief appearance by cellist Giedre Dirvanauskaite. The program lists Mozart, Schubert, and Rachmaninoff.

Past Event

Calidore Strings Quartet

Staying in La Jolla, on Friday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m., the Athenaeum has a concert of string quartet music by the Calidore String Quartet. The quartet was formed in Los Angeles and the name “Calidore” is a combination of California and dore, the French word for golden. I love the strong California association. There is no program information.
