Sacra/Profana presents Heaven & Earth, an a cappella program. Exploring contrasts between the celestial realm and earthly experience, this concert features a new work by Canadian composer and winner of Sacra/Profana's 2012 Composition Contest, Jordan Nobles. Blending the music of Gioachino Rossini and Hungarian composer György Ligeti, his composition Lux Antique uses the ancient names of stars to create a breathtaking sonic texture of spacious overtones. This is the first concert in the monthly Art of Music Concert Series, presented in conjunction with the Museum's 2015 initiative The San Diego Museum of Art Celebrates 100 Years of Art in Balboa Park, and the centennial exhibition The Art of Museum.
