Thongification of America

So, there I was, doing the 'black Friday' thing with my wife. We were up at North Countyfair (the indoors mall near the San Diego Animal Park), going here and going there. (And yes, most of the shoppers were women...but I digress).

We ended up at Victoria's Secret. They were having a panty sale. 7 panties for 25$ I think it was. So, there they were, throngs of women, sifting through the panty/thong collection, located in a large bin, just inside the entrance for all to see. Being the red-blooded guy I thought it looked like some kind of lesbian porn movie. I was in heaven.

But then all fun came to an end when, wow, two women started getting into it. Verbal jabs were launched, and why do you ask???

They were "getting" into it because one of the women had her 10 year old girl right there with her trying to decide what kind of thong to buy. The woman who verbally attacked the mother was hispanic, and was in her late 40s/50s I would say. The other woman was white, maybe in her early 30s, very trendy looking, and her daughter was, as I said, 10 years old at best.

The hispanic woman derided this white woman for letting her 10 year old buy thongs in the first place. My wife and I just stood and watched, and of course being the moral compass of society I am, I wanted to listen to the white woman defend her daughter's wearing of thongs at such a young age. It was the classic 'mom' in action. You know what I mean;

"Hey, all the girls wear them now. And IF my daughter wants to wear a thong in the fifth grade, then it is my right to let her wear one!!" Blah blah blah blah..one more...blah. (I wonder what her opinion is on tongue piercings and tattoos for her 10 year old.)

The majority of the crowd, sorry to say, because I bet they all had daughters too, came out in support of the white lady and her allowing her daughter to wear thongs. It was a very interesting clash of generations/cultures. And it was free!!!

Now, I don't know about some of you, but I sided with the hispanic woman. Did I support her in front of her attackers? No. That isn't what Black Friday should be about. Besides, I wanted the whole thing to get over so I could fawn over the women checking out each other's panty selections.

I went to my daughter's high-school this week. It happens to be the same high-school that I went to, all those centuries ago. Several of the girls were wearing the jeans that were low, so as to expose their butterfly tattoos and the top of their thongs. I realized that the hispanic woman's battle was a losing cause; she's too late. The white woman was right. This is normal for girls, I guess. And they have to start somewhere. Might as well be mom who is pimping them up at such young ages. I'm sure when the girl turns 11 mom will by her a floor-to-ceiling pole so the girl can practice stripper moves, I mean; why not? That is her right too!

The thongification of America; gotta love it. Thank you Gloria Steinem!!
