Gore Vidal is a champion of truth and the author of 25 novels, 6 plays, many screenplays, more than 200 essays and the critically acclaimed memoir, Palimpsest.
Vidal's “United States: Essays 1952-1992” won the 1993 National Book Award.
Gore Vidal was born in 1925, the scion of a prominent political family. But during his life he has been and is an outspoken critic of the American Political Establishment and he's noted for his wit as a social critic.
He wrote the groundbreaking The City and the Pillar in 1948, which outraged mainstream critics as the first major American novel to feature unambiguous homosexuality.
Mr. Vidal has worked tirelessly for peace and justice. He is Al Gore's cousin and Jimmy Carter's 5th cousin.
