In most restaurants, there is a "Golden Rule" of greeting a table within two to three minutes. Even if we, as servers, are slammed we try to at least send waters to your table so that we know you are acknowleged. But then there are those tables you greet that don't acknowledge you. I have been at some tables where the patrons don't look up, don't say hi, and then expect your utmost "bow to your knees" attention. As servers, our goal is to provide you with utmost care and precision. Know the menu, know the allergies, know the timing of how food should arrive. We are expected to clean any finished plate off the table immediately. There are guests that won't help you serve your food and move when your trying to deliver their food.Even when you have four plates in your arms. The are guests that keep their elbows around their dirty dishes and don't help pass them to your when your doing all you can to clear the table.We are all human. My point is, we know we are just servers. But we try to the best we can. Just help us out once in a while and then you can keep the tip.
