On January 16 at about 7:30 a.m., a Sheriff's search and rescue team found the body of a missing hunter near Boulevard. According to a deputy, the man had become separated from his hunting party at the Cottonwood Campground on Sunday evening, and despite using infrared technology, authorities weren't able to locate him until Monday morning.
Although the cause of death has not been officially announced, a witness said that a white-tailed deer jumped the hunter from behind. Then he grabbed the hunting rifle and shot the hunter in the head.
An hour later, a 250-pound buck was taken into custody. He is currently being held at the East Mesa jail. When asked why he'd do such a thing, he insisted it was self-defense. "You don't see any human heads on a cud-chewer's wall do ya?" he replied.
