Fela Anikulapo Kuti once said "music is the weapon of the future" . Fela was a ardical free thinker and brilliant composer of Afrobeat music, A style that integrated traditional West African music with Jazz, funk and soul in the late 70's. But he was more than just a musician. He believed in the power of sound and the spoken word to convey a message straight to the hearts and minds of all people. His belief led him to arrange masterful works of music that incorporated a fundamental message of freedom, peace and tolerance, as well as political and social awareness and ideals. These days most artists are focused on writing material that serves a more basic purpose: to express the self centered feelings of personal relationships, love, and loss....to make money, be a star.....to write catchy, marketable songs devoid of a greater conscious message. I believe it is time for artists to open their eyes and make an effort to use their gifts to educate and enlighten their audiences and to say something real for a change. To speak out against oppression and violence. To use their influence to make the world a better place......Music is very VERY powerful and can be used for the betterment of humankind......think about it -Jason Chase
