I got one more in me today

OK. Have to say it. I feel sorry for Paula Deen. It makes me angry that people judge her and call her names- who are they to judge her? So she found out she had diabetes several years ago. Right at the height of her popularity. Can't you just imagine how much that pissed her off? Geesh. Things are going great and I get sick. What am I going to do? I can see her sitting outside, smoking a cigarette, pounding down some pound cake and thinking, what am I going to do. Put a smile on it. Get out there and pretend it isn't happening. I don't have a life threatening illness, I don't want people to feel sorry for me, talk about me. No one has to know. I'm not even sure I'll tell my family. for now. the smoking is enough. People deal with illness/ disease in different ways. I for one was lucky. I had a symptom that bothered me, and I kept at my doctors until they figured out what caused the symptom. Not diabetes. Cancer! Yes- the C word. I won't judge people with diabetes- they probably call it the "D" word.
I chose to tell everyone about my symptom and my issue. I continue to do that to this day. Because I kept at the doctors, we caught it early, and because I stay on top of it - it has not become, and may not ever become life threatening- although it is recurring, and a pain in the whatever.

I'm not a big time media personality, not even a small time personality. I'm just a human being who smoked for 30 years and thought she got off scott free. Nope, no one has a free pass.

Perhaps Paula Deen has been beating herself up for years, trying like hell to get on a healthy diet, but failing over and over again, just like trying to quit smoking- and it took her years to admit how bad she felt about herself for knowing better and not doing anything about it.

So what if she kept her job (in these times) and her lifestyle and her celebrity. So what if she only went public after making a spokesperson deal with a diabetes drug company. That isn't going to give her back her health. That isn't going to stop everyone from bad-mouthing her.

Give me a break. Do you really believe that people today aren't aware that all the high fat comfort food she's been cookin isn't really healthy. Perhaps if you live on a remote island or in a third world country. And , give me a break, those that feel betrayed are lost in their own guilt.

We are all responsible for our own actions. Paula Deen is an entertainer, and entertain is what she has been doing, and is paid for. She is not to blame for someone elses bad habits or behaviors.

Paula, I have empathy for your health issue. I feel blessed to have discovered my issue early on, so that it is managable, and I hope that you also are able to regain your health and go forward and entertain again. I have the C word - once you get it- it stays with you no matter what the current status is. Sending positive thoughts your way.
