Yes, I have proof. my Corgi-Husky mix is a carb addict. He's a dog too- a 13 year old Helen - Woodward-rescue short husky, or a tall 55 pound Corgi named Joey-like-a-baby-kangaroo. i made the mistake this morning of putting my backpack in the car and leaving it partially unzipped with a nubbin of olive bread in the wrapper on top of my zip locked lunch salad. I ran back in the house to get my coffee, and he disappeared.
There has been an odd smell in the car. Maybe, just maybe, one of the muffins from my Henry's run last week fell out of the environmentally correct overstuffed reusable bag, and had been sitting unobserved on its side, intact, under the seat. "Joey, Joey, beep, beep" I hollered. "Beep, beep!! "(my version of "come" or "move".)
He IS totally food motivated, but there is something about the Moroccan olive bread that makes him particularly obsessive. No baguette or croissant, or specialty, yummy, very expensive bread is exempt. I have to make sure he is in his crate if I run into the farmers market or a drug store for a second, or he's on it. I have a hole in the right pocket of my very expensive REI rain jacket where I had placed a muffin paper pre- trash during a dog stroll. I should sew it up since I continue to put my keys in it and am on my third set.
I have trained him to adore broccoli chips- lightly steamed trunks of broccoli - and baby carrots, but not with the same intensity he gives the bread. Aren't I environmentally aware!
But I learned that it is impossible to find anything but the more expensive broccoli crowns in the market. Well, at least in the non-organic section. Every market I've been to recently- the chains, the independents, the health foods. "No one buys them" they told me at Von's. They offered to special order them for me. that's great customer service BUT I refuse to schedule in a special trip to pick them up in my limited spare time. "Honey, I've got to run to the market to pick up the dogs broccoli branches- can you put the clothes in the dryer?"
