5 easy tips to higher self-esteem

It's no question that teens today are dealing with more stress and pressure than ever before. School in general is more difficult, and college's are demanding more and more from every applicant; above 4.0 gpas, community service, a steady job, playing a sport, running a club, etc. And on top of that, now teens have to manage their lives on facebook, twitter, or myspace, combined with the constant presence of Hollywood and its portrayal of perfection leaves teens questioning their own body, and life. All this pressure to be the best, the most beautiful, the most popular, can chip away at teen's self-esteem.

We've found 5 basic tips, proven, to help your teen out.

  1. Be a positive role model. Have your own self-esteem check-up and watch what you say and do. Parents are a MAJOR influence on your teen's self-esteem. Even if you think they are not listening.
  2. Comment on the positive aspects of your teen's behavior. What do they do well? How are you proud of them?
  3. Foster a positive body image, work with your teen on body acceptance.
  4. Help them set clear, attainable goals. Accomplishing taskes and/or attempting things can give a teen a boost of self-confidence.
  5. Participate with your teen and support their interests.
