A circle she walked every morning,
and at night,
'round she went again.
Each day, this she did as habit,
for years and longer still.
*
She spoke or looked at no one
and no one looked
or spoke to her.
Thought her off in the head
and so she died
alone in her bed.
*
She'd woven a braid of her hair
into this bracelet here,
gave it to me with a message,
which I deliver to you
on your doorstep
as best as I can remember.
*
She told me to say, if you would listen,
that what was wrought
by the gods above
can not be undone,
not by the likes of you
nor the shades of me.
*
She said, there was no severance
for those so bound
since such bonds
are not broken
with the same ease
that we men bend vows
*
only hardened when brought to fire.
And so Sir, if you please,
she asked that you,
with your cup and your cake
in your hands
resting on your knees,
do kindly remember that until this day
when she breathed
her last breath,
*
she walked encircled
in love of you.
A circle she walked every morning,
and at night,
'round she went again.
Each day, this she did as habit,
for years and longer still.
*
She spoke or looked at no one
and no one looked
