Mass Creativity Day at The New Children's Museum

Community-based art- event promises hands-on activities, food trucks, music, and more.

When The New Children’s Museum (200 West Island Avenue) is involved in something, it's generally worth taking a gander.

Their event on Saturday, June 22, where more than 2,500 people are expected to attend, is no exception.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. head on over to the western edge of the Gaslamp Quarter to see The New Children's Museum grounds transformed into a kids-of-all-ages creative playground for Mass Creativity Day, a free event focused on creating “community through art”.

What started as a series of free artist-led workshops held all over San Diego County in April and May culminates into this “all-day celebration of art and creativity”.

The myriad of hands-on activities will feature many different genres of art - music, drawing & illustration, dance, painting on a variety of mediums, millinery, and many more.

To name a few:

Build your own instrument with Bombshell Boom Boom

Learn to breakdance with Cypher City Kings

Screen print your own Mass Creativity Day t-shirt with The Roots Factory

Narrate and illustrate giant comic chalk panels with Little Fish Comic Book Studio

The museum's in-house DJ Albert will be mixing the perfect soundtrack for painting clay wildflowers, riding a human-powered rattan- and unicycle component-sculpted chariot, making abnormal bubbles, and all the other goings-on of the day.

Don’t worry if all the creative action leaves your tummy a’rumblin’, as these food trucks are scheduled to be on hand:

New York On Rye

Mangia Mangia Mobile

The Slider House Burger Co.

Calbi

Crepes Bonaparte

Check the full schedule of happenings to see what else is in the works; some activities have a time constraint while others run all day.
