Surf art & music event paddles into Lafayette Hotel

Musicians North Beach & Andy Mauser join Artists of the Month Rick Avena and Michael Thomas Garger at new monthly event

“We have just had an $8 million dollar renovation… and are excited to show off the historic, but new vibe,” writes Lafayette Hotel Marketing Coordinator, Gabby LaRussa via email.

One of LaRussa's first tasks is to increase the visibility of Lafayette’s Artist of the Month- which have always been local North Park artists but have never properly been showcased until now.

Thursday, February 21 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m., and every third Thursday here on out, sip discounted drinks from the Lafayette Hotel’s bar, Imig’s, while perusing the Artist of the Month’s pieces set up in the conservatory just outside the bar.

There will also be live music, a silent art auction and a 10% discount off any room for any guest who attends the event.

This month is a Surf Art Event, highlighting surf photographer Rick Avena and Michael Thomas Garger who paints on canvas and broken surfboards.

As for the music, Andy Mauser will start the event with “an acoustic surf vibe" and then North Beach (formerly The Short Eyes), who will also be filming their debut music video during their set, take the stage.

DJ Sly will round out the evening spinning “chill-out music”.

Rick Avena has donated a piece for the silent art auction with all proceeds going towards El Cajon Boulevard Business Improvement Association, a “non-profit association whose main mission is to improve the physical and economic conditions along the 60 blocks of the Boulevard between Park Boulevard and 54th Street.”

Lafayette Hotel is located at 2223 El Cajon Boulevard.
