Paul Ryan is not the first politician to lie about his marathon time. Mexican politician, Roberto Madrazo also lied. To be accurate, Madrazo didn't lie, he cheated.
After the 2006 Mexican presidential election, in which Roberto Madrazo got the worst results in his party's history, he ran the Berlin Marathon. His time was 2:41:12--good enough for first place in the age-55 group and about 36 minutes off the world record pace set by Haile Gebrselassie in the same race.
A photographer at the finish line noticed that Madrazo appeared fresh for a 50-something-year-old runner who just won his age group.
After checking Madrazo’s electronic shoe-chip record, it was shown that he missed two check points and covered nine miles in 21 minutes. The world record for nine miles (15K) is 41 minutes.
Are there any politicians who have truthfully run a marathon in under three hours? Yes, Rod Blagojevich.
