Voz Alta: brochasos are portals for the soul

“A masterpiece is made by a series of brushstrokes or, brochasos,” the Voz Alta (1754 National Ave. - Barrio Logan) art and music event page reads.

“Brochasos are portals for the soul. They carry emotions and consciousness tightly, as if they were aware of the value in each stroke. Each stroke, building an understanding of the work, it's journey and that of the artist. The gestures of these strokes expressing a tone. Brochasos, like letters, create colorful poetry recited to the viewer.

“The artists, Salvador Gonzalez, Ricardo Islas, and Miguel Angel Godoy all share this same language. Their life paths have crossed coincidentally in this small world. Upon the exhibition of their work they aim to fuse their brochasos in evolving a time and space. This evolution will connect three families, three schools of thought, and three separate journeys. The exhibition by the relation of their works will solidify their purposeful connection. Each artist will contribute seven pieces to the evolution of this show. It will be a fusion of works inspired from the classicists to the expressionists.

“These artists are brochasos brought together by fate, to create a masterpiece in history.”

The event on Saturday, October 13 also features live jams from Black Hondo, rare 45s selected by DJ Jose Chavez, cumbia and Latin funk spun by DJ King Saso, b-boy cypher Rock So Fresh, and DIY bluesman Big Steve Barker and his cigar box guitar.
