Live at the Belly Up TV show debut taping on Monday, Nov. 5

Dead Feather Moon, the Tilt, and the Styletones will perform on Monday, November 5, at the debut taping of Live at the Belly Up, which will begin airing on KPBS in January 2013.

A series of November shows will be filmed in conjunction with KPBS and San Diego State University School of Theatre, Television, and Film, set to air on KPBS in starting January 4, 2013. Focusing on the local music scene, each of these nights will feature two San Diego bands representing a variety of genres (rock, reggae, singer-songwriters), and will include HD footage of the band’s performance, band interviews, DJ sets by local DJ’s, and (according to a press release) "lots of crowd participation."

“The Belly Up has been presenting great local talent for over 30 years, but we’ve never had the opportunity to broadcast anything at this level of quality," says executive producer Chris Goldsmith of the Belly Up. "Thanks to our partnership with KPBS, San Diego music fans will be able to enjoy a world-class HD TV show about music from our own backyard that will be a lot of fun to watch.”

Hosted by KPBS’s director of programming John Decker, the show is slotted to air Fridays at 10pm. Decker says, “We're thrilled to work with our friends at the Belly Up and SDSU...KPBS is the source for arts and culture, and it makes us proud to highlight local musicians. Live at the Belly Up fits perfectly into our mission of being the source for high quality local programs.”

Tickets to attend tapings are $5 to the general public, and may be purchased in advance or on the day of each show, with doors opening at 7:30pm and shows starting at 8pm.

Based in North County, most members of psychedelic alt-country rockers Dead Feather Moon grew up around Vista, playing their first show in 2009 at 710 Beach Club in Pacific Beach and later becoming a staple at the Belly Up. They released their first EP Leave Heaven to the Birds in July 2009. A debut full-length Dark Sun, tracked in February 2011 at White Horse Recorders with producer Aaron Swanton, was released in July 2011. A little over a year later, it won Best Alternative Album at the 2012 San Diego Music Awards, where the group also got a nomination for Best Alternative band.

Based in Pacific Beach and fronted by singer Jesse Malley and guitar player Jeff Irwin, the Tilt includes local players from the Pheromones, the Grass Heat, and Family Wagon. Their debut self-named demo was released in 2010, and the band aims to release new songs on their website every two to three months.
