Tomorrow is Mother's Day and either you've just remembered, or you've vaguely promised to do something with Mom. But what exactly are you two going to be doing, she asks.
Farmers' markets will be running from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in La Jolla (La Jolla Elementary School) and downtown (Third Ave between Island and J Streets), and until 2 p.m. in Hillcrest (DMV lot). Amble past stalls of fresh produce, take in the crowd and live music, and sample fresh fruit, dips, cheese, and juices. Buy Mom a bouquet of flowers at one of the flower stalls.
Last minute brunch reservations are hard to come by. So the best thing about these two spots? First come, first serve. Check out Kensington Cafe (4141 Adams Ave) for their Honey Gone Nuts waffle ($7.95) or a healthy but hearty egg scramble served with breakfast potatoes and toast ($7.50-7.95). The venue has shaded, dog-friendly outdoor seating, too, in case Mom wants to bring her pup. You can also try Farm House Cafe (2121 Adams Ave), which is a good pick if your Mom has a very discerning palate. Try the lemon curd and lavender honey french toast ($8) or a croque monsieur ($12).
And, of course, you can always make Mom brunch yourself.
