“Last year we had a total of 42 movies in the series and this year we have 55 scheduled,” said Christine Lafontant, District Manager of the County of San Diego Department of Parks and Recreation. “We may be adding a few more as we get additional sponsors.”

Produced by FunFlicks, the films are digital projections shown on jumbo inflatable screens with super-sonic outdoor sound systems. Lafontant estimates that more than 16,000 viewers attended last year’s films. “We are hoping for over 20,000 this summer.”

The most popular venues of the 40 offered are the USS Midway Museum, 4S Ranch Sports Park, and Spring Valley Park.

Next in the queue is Dolphin Tale to be screened at Robb Field in Ocean Beach tonight, Friday, July 6th. Next Friday, Happy Feet Two will be shown at National City Municipal Pool, Despicable Me at Lindo Lake Park, and Alvin & the Chipmunks—Chipwrecked at Skyline Hills Community Park. Dolphin Tale can be viewed on Saturday evening, July 14th, at Kearny Mesa Community Park while Kung Fu Panda 2 can be seen at 4S Ranch Sports Park.

Pre-movie activities are provided for children. Check the venue regulations prior bring pooches and lawn chairs.
