On Saturday, February 11, local community-based theatre group Circle Circle dot dot will be throwing a fundraiser for their third original production, Deconstruction of a Drag Queen, which tells the life story of prominent performer Grace Towers.
“It starts in his childhood with his emotionally abusive mother,” says company member Soroya Rowley, “and ends with this beautiful man becoming one of San Diego's most fabulous drag queens.”
The Love Roulette fundraiser features drag performances by the subject of Deconstruction of a Drag Queen, a sneak peak of the play by Circle Circle dot dot artistic director Katherine Harroff, and several original short plays based around themes of love.
“They will be sometimes funny and sometimes touching, but always original,” says Rowley. “That is our M.O., after all.”
Playwrights for Love Roulette include Rowley, Samantha Ginn, Jason Perkins, Erin Maxwell, Stephen Schmitz, Evan Kendig, and Melissa Coleman-Reed.
Circle Circle dot dot tells true San Diego stories with their company of performance-artists, writers, directors, puppeteers, designers, and musicians.
Past productions have focused on the cast’s own romantic misadventures and the local Live Action Role Play community.
“The really exciting thing is that every play is going to be different from the last,” Harroff told the Reader last October.
“There will be lots of similar human stories, because all people deal with similar conflicts. But we are limitless in what we can do. There’s no other theatre group like that in San Diego that I’ve found. We’d love to be the group that represents collaborative community-based theatre in San Diego.”
Love Roulette tickets are $25 and include a drink at intermission and a post-show party with drinks and dessert.
