A few months ago, my friend Hugo (aka MOISTRIX) and I went to Mexicali, Mexico with a video camera, a tentative plan, and a mission: to document the music scene that continues to bring us back to Baja’s capital and to collaborate with local artists on the streets of Mexicali.
The result was "Blue Balls in Mexicali,” a fifteen-minute mini doc featuring an interview with graffiti tag bomber DSEK World, a tour of the city’s recently renovated Pasaje del Arte (“Passage of the Arts”), and live footage of Mexicali/San Diego post punk quartet Batwings - all to a local soundtrack including Maniqui Lazer, Juan Cirerol, X=R7, Lipstick Terror, Jung Sing, Vampire Slayer, Letters From Readers, and 16 Beats Machine.

We named our production team Snail Trail Media under this premise: go in slow, antennas up. Observe. Feel the place out, document it, and leave something behind.
It is in this spirit that we approached our second video, a mini doc on Tijuana.
The pending documentary includes a special showing and interview with dark jazz cabaret band Madame Ur y Sus Hombres, an interview with Reuben Torres of ruidoson avant-gardists Los Macuanos, footage of Festival Norte Sonoro and the third annual All My Friends Music Festival, a tour of Pasaje Rodgriuez with photographer Jill Holslin, and our own snail trails – Hugo’s work on a wall in Zona Centro with artists Ugo, Panca, and Azteco, and my musical collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Eric Curiel of PL DVNA, Shantelle, The Electric Healing Sound, Dancing Strangers, and Perros Cobardes.
