He told Pitchfork in a May interview this year, "One of my favorite plays of all time is Tony Kushner's Angels in America. There's a character in it who has this imaginary friend named Mister Lies. My music has to do with imaginary things . . ."
His music has been labeled nocturnal pop and emotional electronica with trip hop influences like Portishead. Mister Lies performs in San Diego on January 9 at Soda Bar (3615 El Cajon Blvd). The show starts at 8:30 p.m. and tickets cost $8-10. Matthew David, Room E, and Different Sleep will also perform.
