5K=35K

First time event is a big success for schools.

The 1st Annual Carmel Valley 5K and Kid's Fun Run was a huge success. The event was sold out three days before the race date and it raised $35,000 for the Del Mar Schools Education Foundation (DMSEF).

The event doubled race director Katie Wilsey's expectations.

"I don't have any history as a race director. I'm just a mother of four with a passion for running and I wanted to organize a race as a fundraiser for the schools".

With no previous experience and a first swing home run, Katie may have found a hidden talent.

"I had a crew of 20 amazing parent volunteers. The entire Carmel Valley Community was very supportive. Businesses such as Gut Check Fitness, Fit 'n' Fun Kids, Greenspan Orthodontics, Kilroy Realty, Rockademy, BBQ Republic, and Torrey Hills Chiropractic stepped up with huge support as well".

The overall winner of the 5K was Thomas King from Bishop's. Thomas is a senior cross country star who won the CIF Division 4 this season.

Runner's from the Carmel Valley Middle School and Mira Mesa High School cross country teams also participated.
