Sleepless San Diego 2011

When I was a sprightly young college chap in Northern California, I took much joy in making summer-hitchhiking jaunts to the great cities of Left Coast America, where I rubbed elbows with the locals, visited destinations of literary and historical import, and often slept on the streets or rooftops.

But while my bout with hobo adventure was basically a crude if not spartan mode of tourism, an estimated 8,500 to 10,000 San Diegans are currently living on the streets without the thrill of my Kerouac meets CrimethInc idealism.

This Saturday, you’ll have the chance to help our homeless community by sleeping under the stars on a cot or cut of cardboard at Liberty Station.

Registration costs a minimum donation of $50 before September 23 or $60 on the day of the event.

All donations support programs for the homeless at the San Diego Rescue Mission.

Day passes are $20 in advance, $25 at the door, and $45 for a family pack (2 adults and up to 3 children 15 years old or younger).

DJ – 3:00pm Social Silence - 3:55 pm Rubio Dance Crew – 4:30 pm Homeless Court – 4:55 pm Treasures Out Of Darkness – 5:15 pm Daechelle (from Disney Bratz) - 5:50 pm Mayor's Office Presentation – 6:40 pm Dr. Seahorse - 6:45 pm Jarret LeMaster Band - 7:25 pm Phil Wickham - 8:30 pm
