Hennessey’s PB Cancels Saturday Shows: No More Live Music?

“Just got some crazy news,” Lenny Morris posted online Saturday night, September 10. “The show for tonight at Hennessey's Pacific Beach is cancelled, including all future music at Hennesseys PB. Crazy…kind of spotty on the details, but I guess they aren’t allowed to have music anymore.”

The venue at 4650 Mission Boulevard is part of the Hennessey’s Franchise chain, whose bar and restaurant franchise includes operations in Carlsbad, Dana Point, Hermosa Beach, Laguna Beach, Las Vegas, Manhattan Beach, downtown San Diego, a La Jolla branch that opened in summer 2010, and elsewhere. Branch operations include Hennessey’s Tavern, Hennessey’s Sports Pub, After Dinner, and others.

Founded in 1976 by former Wall Street stock trader Paul Hennessey, Hennessey's Tavern, Inc. has grown from a single Hermosa Beach location to includes ten Hennessey's Tavern and H.T Grill operations, as well as the Lighthouse Cafe jazz club.

H.T. Grill, with its upscale dinner-house menu and decor, opened in 1987, while the Lighthouse Cafe jazz club was acquired in 1989. New operations described as “beachy casual” include the Sponge Bobian-sounding Fish Bucket restaurant and an Island-themed seafood restaurant and bar in Redondo Beach called Mickie Finnz.

In 2005, the company reported total revenues of approximately 30 million dollars.

At this writing, neither PB management nor Hennessey’s Taven Inc. in Redondo Beach have responded to requests for clarification.

It should be noted, though, that Hennessey‘s general manager Kevin Haagenson (from Houston, but currently living in Pacific Beach) is likely tied up, as he and his wife Jennifer welcomed a new baby last week.

At present, the Hennessey's PB website (http://www.hennesseystavern.com/pacific_beach.html) does not list any upcoming live music, only drink and menu specials.
