Whack Friday Alternatives

Concerned that being pepper sprayed by rabid Black Friday shoppers at Walmart will only bring back difficult memories of Occupy San Diego?

Head up to North Park, where shops including Aloha Sunday, Rufskin, Hunt & Gather, Ms Vintage, Pigment, and Mimi & Red will be throwing a sidewalk sale as part of the North Park Mall Relief, a local alternative to all the passé 1% dumps in the Valley.

Up the way in University Heights, the art collective 3rdSpace (4610 Park Boulevard) is hosting a Black Friday edition of The Goods Show, a showcase of local artists and designers in a community marketplace environment.

“Our goal is to provide a progressive and intriguing arena in which local artists can exhibit their creations directly to a community that fosters creativity, good intention and conscientious purchasing power,” writes 3rdSpace.

“This will be done by providing a service to our local and regional community. The Goods Show Black Friday aims at providing the local community with an alternative to the mall shopping scenario of Black Friday. Local businesses and artists will prosper and buyers will be provided with unique, handmade, affordable gifts. This creates an interactive dialogue between the artists and designers and people buying their products, which is likely to encourage lasting relationships.

"The Goods Show Black Friday is a show dedicated to generating dialogue between the local community, artists, businesses, and humanitarian causes through art, music, design, fashion, and food. It is through these filters that we are able to raise funds and awareness for Corazon de Vida.”

Corazon de Vida is a nonprofit dedicated to providing housing, clothing, food, and education to orphans throughout the Baja region.

Make sure to check out my buddy Jimothy with Chi Stylez slangin' the leather goods.

Entry is 5 bucks, but ride your bike to the show and get a free drink.

Join the fun percent, Guy!

3rdSpace - 4610 Park Blvd - till 8 p.m.
