I’ve heard a lot of murmurs about 11/11/11 over the past few weeks, everything from foreboding rumors of apocalypse to the dawning of a new age to the official day of celebration for Spinal Tap's Nigel Tufnel.
In an internet poll of 24,205 people, 46% believe something good will happen on a global scale, 45% believe nothing significant will happen on a global scale, and 9% believe something bad will happen on a global scale.
While I’m hard up to decipher which of these has come to fruition, at least on the international level, tonight’s local music line-up lends heavy credence to the “something good” suspicion.
The Crystal Castles show in Tijuana is sold out, but the hop across the border is well worth it for Club Purple’s afterparty at Black Box in the hep nexus of Revolución and Sexta.
On the decks will be Club Purple soundstress Miss Lady D, Jazz 88.3 DJ and also my badass roommate Mawkus (Sweet Cheeks), Moonshake dance floor killer Lee Reynolds, and Bajaton resident Colour Vision.

Stateside, Kill Quanti and Critical Beatdown present Brainfeeder experimental instrumental beathead Ras G & The Afrikan Space Program at the Kava Lounge.

“This mingling of artistry on this magical night will prove to be one of the greatest art, music, and cultural events this year.”
Down the street at the Sunset Temple next to Claire de Lune, local art nonprofit Sezio will be hosting Rafter, Oregon Bike Trails, and Dirty Gold as part of their weekend occupation of the venue.
"Sezio plans on taking over North Park for the majority of this week, getting a bunch of our favorite people and places involved," reads the announcement posted on Sezio's website.

Meanwhile, in East Village at the mxd830 building outdoor courtyard (830 25th Street), multimedia art group Cathedral X (featuring sound artist and designer Amanda Schoepflin, visual performance artist Jessica Jeffery, and sound artist Paul Remund of Chairs Missing and Tape Deck Mountain) will be throwing “A Happening,” a fundraiser for their debut full-length DVD, Spaces in Solitude.
“The campaign is sought to help Cathedral X push its context from a live performance on stage at a venue to a moment in pure intimate geographic solitude,” writes Schoepflin via email.
“The group will be rewarding donators with several different tokens of appreciation, for each level there are multiple rewards of personalized and original pieces designed and created by the artists in house.”
