Brian’s Farmers' Market

Why do Farmers Markets Rock? Brian’s Market is located on B Street, in between 27th and 28th. When walking towards the market, I immediately noticed fresh flowers, produce, organic creams, honey, and jewelry, just to name a few items that can be purchased at this busy market.

I had the opportunity to meet the man himself, Brian Beevers (below) of Brian’s Farmers' Market. When introducing myself to Brian he was informative about the Farmers' Market. In addition to the market in Golden Hills, he has other locations in Point Loma, Mission Valley and UTC.

Credit cards are accepted with a $1 transaction fee and in return they give you Brian bucks to use in the market. Since incorporating the credit card method, all four markets together have accumulated $10,000 a month.

Brian stressed that the Farmers' Market is in partnership with WIC and a plan entitled Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program or FMNP. Those that are enrolled in a WIC program get checks to use at the market for fresh fruits and vegetables at a lower cost than going into the grocery store.

Brian said he chose Golden Hills because of the diversity in the neighborhood. There is a mix of low income to middle class; he said “it’s perfect because the location of the farmer’s market is right in the middle.”

There is something for everyone at this market and I strongly recommend visiting one Saturday morning and strolling through the aisles.
