“Our mission: To get foreigners into Tijuana but away from Revolucion,” writes Derrik Chinn of Turista Libre, an alternative tour service in Tijuana. “To introduce them the side of the city their local counterparts live on a daily basis. To live for a day as a local in a city that was built for tourists.”
Past excursions have included a craft beer tour, the waterpark, a street art bike tour, the circus, and a rollerskating party.
The next outing, a Lucha Libre fight this Friday, July 29, features “masked Mexican wrestlers throwing down body slams, somersaults, backflips and trash talk en español at Tijuana's Auditorio Municipal, an intergalactic homage to 1980s domed architecture that looks like something out of Star Wars.”
Spill beer with TJ locals cheering on Canek, Pirata Morgan, Rey Mendoza and Kun Fu Panda.
"Afterparty happens at Porky's,” Chinn writes. “Sixth Street's iconic time warp to the 1980s. So iconic, in fact, that the DJ booth is a giant Rubik's cube.”
$18 gets you admission, transportation to and from the border on Turista Libre's bus, and surprises.
Meet the bus at 7 p.m. just south of the San Ysidro pedestrian border crossing in Tijuana’s Colonia Federal.
Space is limited and ticket prepurchase is mandatory.
Bring yo passport.
