Ironic Independence Celebration

So, I'm tooling through a neighborhood I only recently learned is called Middletown, and I come across a banner at Shakespeare Pub & Grille advertising their 4th of July brunch. Aroo? I'd always been under the impression that "we the" people were celebrating our separation from Britain on this day the Declaration of Independence was adopted.

I was totally baffled, but then I went home and checked the restaurant's Facebook page, which stated the following: "Where better to celebrate the declaration of independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain than a British Pub?!! Stop by on your way to the beach or your family barbecue and start your day the right way ... join us for breakfast from 8am - 12 noon. We will be serving our full breakfast menu as well as helping you to celebrate in style with $3 Mimosa's."

And then I was like, Oh, I get it! The pub is offering itself up as a hub for some belated gloating in the face of the vanquished. That's really big of them. Way to go, England, you're taking this like a champ. Maybe I'll stop by for one of those mimosa's and a few minutes of feeling smug before heading out to whichever barbecue I end up at. Actually, probably not. But let's take a rain check -- I love your Quiz Nights every month -- how bout I skip the whole "hanging with my parents to celebrate the day I moved out in a huff" and instead, come by for some good ol' fashion family gaming on a less tense holiday? Awesome. See you then.
