“There are less than six hours left to donate to So Say We All and have your donation qualify for matching funds,” So Say We All board president David Tuffy writes in an email received at 1:20 p.m.
“We need your help, and this is why:
“Justin and I formed So Say We All as a 501.c.3 nonprofit just over a year ago with the shared vision of creating a thriving local arts community in San Diego. We both love this city, for its natural beauty, it's beautiful weather, it's international population, word-class university system and, most of all for the bevvy of smart, talented people who call San Diego home. It's time that we gave San Diego the nationally reknowned reputation for great local art that it deserves.
“We have the talent, we have the venues and we have the audiences that want to be a part of this movement, to experience the work of gifted local artists and participate by sharing their stories. It is So Say We All's mission to bring them together. We want to build better communities, stronger neighborhoods and more local business opportunities through the arts.
“And we're winning.
“In just over a year, we've expanded from a group that puts on a couple of monthly shows to a production, education and outreach program hosting performances several times a month, coordating partnerships with local galleries and businesses and reaching out to the community through programs like our homeless teens writing and performance workshop with St. Vincent DePaul.
“Thanks to the help of generous donors, volunteers and supporters like you, we've made it this far, but we need your support to carry on.
“Your tax-deductable donation of $25 or more will help fund programs like our Veterans writing workshop, support our free monthly shows and allow us to expand our outreach into new communities. If you donate by 7pm today, via our Give Big! promotion, your gift will be eligible for matching funds for the San Diego foundation. Please help us reach our goal of $10,000 by 7pm tonight. We can't build this community without you.”
From their website:
“Created in February of 2009 and based in San Diego, CA, So Say We All (SSWA) is a 501(c)3 non-profit arts organization whose mission is to serve local, San Diego artists by fostering an environment in which they can thrive both creatively and professionally. We aim to achieve this by producing public events open to their participation, providing them with a cultivated audience, archiving their work online to increase publicity, and offering educational opportunities to enhance their craft.
“Why San Diego? We grew up here. We believe San Diego’s artistic community is its greatest asset, a force for economic stimulus, and on par with those of the greatest cities in the world. We’ve watched too many talented individuals become frustrated with their opportunities, lose faith in their craft, or move away in order to survive. We got sick of hearing people say, “that’s a good idea, but it’ll never work here.” We didn’t share the inferiority complex. We were bored and decided we wanted to declare a jihad on mediocrity. We believe self-expression is the new entertainment.”
So Say We All produces multimedia events including Greenroom, F*ck Alt Comedy, VAMP, and So Say We All Story Slam nights.
