The Griffin in Morena celebrates their grand opening tonight with a free show from Dead Feather Moon, The Lyon Crowns, and Rhino. The classed up former site of O’Connell’s touts an updated sound system, $2 PBR pints, a medieval tavern vibe, and shuffleboard. I suspect this place will become a popular nightlife destination for live and DJ dance parties, despite the purgatorial location.
Alternately, head to the Ruby Room in Hillcrest for Propaganda: Art Works of Lies & Deceit. The showcase features subversive works from local artists including Scott Sampaio, Mackenzie Longwell, Kristin Hardy, Kristen Argerake, Karla Magana, Callie Himsl (live art), Jack Stricker, Kaitlin Trataris, and Jason Acton (live art).
Holding down the jams will be Sunny Rude (reggae), The Filthy Violets (alternative rock), GED (electronic/experimental), and Electric Mistress (rock).
Seven dollars.
For more volume, check out the Til Two Club, where O.C. skate punks U.S. Bombs (featuring members of Social Distortion) shake ground with Pascal Briggs, local MC5ish rockers The Natives, Wolly Mammoth, and Coda Reactor
Tickets $15 (online or door)
As a reminder, I’ll be giving a reading alongside Matt Lewis and Heidi Raynowska tonight at the Ink Spot (710 13th Street), where the Radvocate open submission zine will be celebrating the release of their second issue.
Come have a drink, hob nob, and grab a copy of the print-only Radvocate.
