This is a big weekend for Shag-loving rockabillies. The theme for this year’s Tiki extravaganza, Tiki Oasis 11, is “South of the Border: A Retro Tijuana-Style Tiki Party.” The three-day event is being held at Bali Hai Restaurant on Shelter Island.
Vintage cars (and pin-up girls) will be on display, but that’s not the third of it. The line-up of performers and musicians includes famed burlesque dancers such as Mimi Le Meaux and Dixie von Trixie, legendary bands like Don Tiki, comedian Marty Lush & the Latin Livers, and Tana the Tattooed Lady, who specializes in “Yogatease.”
There will also be a pin-up photo contest, and the decadent-sounding “Whipped Cream Girl Contest.” Ahem. Event Dr. Sketchy’s will be there, featuring Marina the Fire Eating Mermaid as their model. Seriously, there’s so much going on at this event over the weekend I need a Mai Tai just thinking about it.
