The care-free election days when there's no opponent to run against have drawn to a close for San Diego's District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis.
Now running for her fourth term, Dumanis has already witnessed one challenger enter the race to replace her, now she has another.
Joining Robert Brewer on the list of potential candidates is Deputy District Attorney Terri Wyatt.
On September 23, Wyatt filed papers with the County Clerk announcing the run to replace her boss. Wyatt has been a long-time prosecutor at the District Attorney's Office and is also, according to a Google search, is the current President of the San Diegans Against Crime, a group which seeks "to further serve and protect the public by outreach, education, and political activity geared toward electing public officials who understand that public safety is a top priority of government at all levels."
Dumanis has her work cut out for her this time around. Last week, The San Diego Police Officers Association as well as several other law enforcement unions endorsed Brewer, citing Dumanis' political activities such as her run for Mayor and endorsements of other GOP-leaning candidates.
In an open letter to voters, Brewer vowed to stay out of local politics if elected:
"I will not run for any other office. I would never use such an important public safety position as a stepping stone to further personal political ambitions."
"I will not endorse political candidates for office. The District Attorney should stay out of local politics, except to investigate, if necessary."
As of now, little information is known about Wyatt. She has yet to start a campaign website and there is no phone number listed on the forms.
The article will be updated with her platform and candidate statement when that is posted.
