31 year-old Lance Rodgers of El Cajon was caught burglarizing a vehicle outside the Grossmont Center Walmart store in La Mesa and arrested after running into police while walking away from the scene of the crime.
Shortly after 7:30 Saturday evening (October 12), an unidentified victim reported finding Rodgers rummaging through the contents of his 2004 Ford Ranger after he returned from shopping. After a brief confrontation, the suspect walked away and was contacted a short time later by La Mesa Police officers responding to the call.
After a brief foot pursuit, Rodgers was captured by police, at which point he was positively identified by his victim. Rodgers was also found to be in possession of burglary tools and booked on charges of said possession as well as burglary and resisting arrest.
