A Bilbray, not Brian, runs for Congress

Daughter of Democratic Nevada ex-congressman Jim Bilbray, cousin of San Diego's Brian Bilbray, is a candidate for swing district congressional seat

Anyone thinking that the long congressional run of the Bilbray family ended with the ousting of the GOP's Brian Bilbray from his long-held San Diego seat by La Jolla Democrat Scott Peters will have to stand by a bit longer: Erin Bilbray has declared as a candidate for congress from a swing district surrounding the city of Las Vegas. Her father Jim, who is Brian's cousin, was in the House from 1987 through 1994, when he lost his bid for reelection and like his cousin became a lobbyist.

A lawyer, Jim is now on the board of governors of the U.S. Postal Service.

Erin Bilbray's campaign website provides some family history:

My paternal grandfather, who was a sixth grade, depression-educated, shoe salesman, saw Southern Nevada as a land of opportunity for a small businessman. My maternal grandfather, who was a blackjack dealer at the Sahara, saw Southern Nevada as a good place to raise his family.

Like her father, Erin Bilbray, also known as Bilbray-Kohn, is a Democrat, and out bashing the House leadership that Brian was once a part of. Nevada's Third District seat is currently occupied by second term Republican Joe Heck.

According to her entry on Wikipedia.org, Bilbray "helped to found Southern Nevada Prom Closet, which provides prom dresses to teenagers who can't afford them. She has also worked with the American Diabetes Foundation and the Agassi Foundation."

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports:

She's also a political consultant who ran Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto's successful re-election campaign in 2010. And Bilbray-Kohn is the executive director of Emerge Nevada, an organization that trains Democratic women to run for political office and boasts a high success rate.
