Man accused of child abuse testified in his own defense

“I’m not the person taking those videos.”

Daniel Roger Hood, 43, denied that he captured the incriminating video clips found in his cell phone. Hood also denied that was his body part shown in high definition on a monitor for the jury of 7 men and 5 women.

“Mine’s bigger,” he declared. For a tense moment, there was fear in the courtroom that the prosecutor might demand the witness produce the body part in question. The moment passed.

Video clips in Hood’s phone captured multiple acts of abuse on a small girl, by a grown man. Hood seemed to suggest that someone else must have taken a memory card out of his phone, and captured the disturbing videos, and then replaced the card into his phone. Other photos on the same card were admittedly of Hood, several photos showed his distinctive tattoos, and Hood did confirm this from the witness box late yesterday, May 30, 2013.

The alleged victim, now 11-years-old, testified earlier in the week. “He was my mom’s boyfriend,” the girl told the jury. They all lived together in a home in Oceanside in 2011, when the girl was 9 years old, according to the girl and her mother.

“There was no way her and I was ever alone together,” the defendant insisted. Hood seemed to suggest he was at “my reservation,” Yavapai Nation at Fort McDowell in Arizona, during the timeframe of the alleged incidents.

Prosecutor Keith Watanabe suggested that Daniel Hood’s first two marriages ended with those wives accusing him of possessing “homemade child pornography” and those women demanded that he “get help.” Hood denied those assertions. The prosecutor is expected to produce rebuttal witnesses next week.

Testimony began earlier this week in a trial for Daniel Hood, who pleads not guilty to 11 felony counts of child abuse. Trial will resume Monday June 3, 2013, before the Honorable Blaine Bowman in San Diego’s North County Courthouse.
