Major League Baseball has filed suit against Biogenesis of America, an “anti-aging” clinic in southern Florida that the league claims provided suspended San Diego Padres catcher Yasmani Grandal and others not only with banned performance-enhancing drugs but with instructions on how to avoid detection while dosing.
Six individuals are also named in the suit, including clinic founder and director Anthony Bosch.
“[E]ach of the defendants participated in a scheme to solicit major league players to purchase or obtain, and/or to sell, supply or otherwise make available to major league players, substances that the defendants knew were prohibited,” states a portion of MLB’s case.
Among the complaints from the commissioner’s office, the league claims that the clinic solicited clients that they were fully aware were banned from consuming the products marketed to them, attempted to conceal the names of the recipients of drugs, and assured players that, if administered properly, the drugs would not be detected by regular MLB screenings.
