Los Angeles City Controller Wendy Greuel and City Councilman Eric Garcetti, who got through that city's mayoral primary this week, are already back on the campaign trail, duking it out in advance of the May general election. Garcetti got 33 percent of the vote, with Greuel close behind at 29 percent. Eight candidates were in the running.

Meanwhile, back in San Diego - where the biggest political battle is between hotel mogul-backed, GOP-leaning Judge Timothy B. Taylor and Democratic mayor Bob Filner over whether Taylor will force Filner to sign a contract negotiated by hotelier financed Republican ex-mayor Jerry Sanders - more than a few wealthy denizens have already kicked in some big bucks for their L.A. favorites.
At the head of the pack is Mark Fabiani, the so-called master of disaster and ex-Bill Clinton aide who works for the Chargers as special counsel and turns up here on various occasions to ask for taxpayer subsidies for a new stadium.
According to campaign finance disclosure data made available online by the Los Angeles city ethics commission, La Jollan Fabiani came up with $1300 for Greuel, as did his wife June.
Other Greuel backers from La Jolla included ex-San Diego city manager and onetime Sol Price honcho Jack McGrory, with $1300, and serial entrepreneur Barbara Bry with $500. Allyson McGrory gave $1300.
In addition, Democratic ex-state senator Christine Kehoe gave Greuel $500. Jennifer LeSar, the spouse of Democratic Assemblywoman Toni Atkins, contributed $250. LeSar Development Consultants made an in-kind contribution of $417.
Lawyer and Del Mar Fair board member Fred Schenk, brother of Democratic ex-congresswoman and current High Speed Rail board member Lynn Schenk, came up with $750, as did his law partner David Casey.
Greuel's mayoral opponent Garcetti received the support of Al Ziegaus, who runs Southwest Strategies, a San Diego-based influence peddling boutique. The lobbyist gave $500. Ex-San Diego city councilman Jim Madaffer, who is married to a San Diego lobbyist, gave $100, and Affirmed Housing Group's Jim Silverwood contributed $1300. Lisa Silverwood gave $1000.
A onetime chief of staff to late Democratic L.A. mayor Tom Bradley, Fabiani also gave $700 to the city council campaign of Gil Cedillo, an ex-Democratic state senator who had the backing of Gov. Jerry Brown. As of this morning, Cedillo had 49.4 percent of the vote to Jose Gardea's 43.3 percent.
In all, those with San Diego and La Jolla addresses gave a total of $63,367 in the long run-up to this week's L.A. elections.
