Court hearing this month for disbarred attorney

Still owes about $80,000 to former clients

Disgraced former-attorney Patricia Ann Gregory, 63, has been working lately as a part-time debt collector, according to a recent probation report.

Gregory also receives income from social security and a military pension, the report stated.

The former Carlsbad attorney, who was removed from practice in 2011 and then disbarred in 2012, had specialized in family law practice. Gregory eventually admitted taking money from the accounts of her clients, whom she had been representing in divorce proceedings, in a plea deal in San Diego Superior Court.

As of May 30, 2013, Gregory still owed $82,745 to two of her former clients, according to her court file. The thefts from her clients’ trust funds occurred in 2007 and 2008, according to court records and published reports of the State Bar of California.

Her most recent probation report declares: “At this time, Ms. Gregory has her restitution payments on automatic payments on her credit card.” She is paying off those debts at $500 to each victim, per month, and those payments are “current,” the report states.

Gregory did not appear for her last hearing in San Diego’s North County Superior Courthouse on June 17, 2013. She is not required to be present if she is making “timely payments” and is “current” on restitution.

Patricia Gregory is reportedly renting a home in Apple Valley and has asked for jurisdictional transfer of her case to Riverside County, but that request has not been granted, yet.

Gregory filed a law suit against the County of San Diego and Sheriff Gore and counselor Montiel in federal court, according to the probation report. And she “indicated she may file for potential lawsuits against both victims (Luwain Ng and Denise Doll) in this matter, both of her criminal attorneys, the Union Tribune, the North County Times, the County of San Diego, and two additional attorneys.”

One of the victims, Luwain Ng, told a probation officer that she found the notification of a possible lawsuit to be “a form of harassment.”

The next review for Patricia Gregory is set for October 17, 2013 in San Diego’s North County Superior Courthouse.
