Man admits attempted murder for ramming another man w his car

Repeat felon made a plea deal

Jorge Alcantara Colin, 22, admitted attempted murder for ramming another man with a car, in a plea deal last week.

He also admitted personal use of a deadly weapon, a silver Mitsubishi sedan, and that he caused great bodily injury on the man he pinned between his sedan and the victim’s truck parked at a curb.

The defendant, whose name is also listed as Jorge Colin Alcantara in paperwork, agreed to an 18-year prison term in the deal made on July 24, 2013. Because Colin already has one strike conviction, the repeat felon risked life-in-prison with the new crimes, according to a prosecutor.

The Sheriff reported that Colin used his car to attack a man who had interrupted him beating a woman on a street in San Marcos, the evening of January 21, 2013. The violent altercation was witnessed by a number of concerned citizens, near the corner of Rue de Valle and Margie Place, according to a Sheriff’s statement.

The car that Colin used as a weapon belonged to the woman he had been beating, and was disabled by the collision and he abandoned it at the scene, according to Sheriff’s Sergeant Dan Deese. The suspect fled on foot and was arrested two weeks later.

Records show the offender was on probation for felony first-degree burglary with gang allegations, at the time of the new offense. A reliable source said the defendant is a member of the Varrio San Marcos street gang, and he was convicted of the burglary nine months before the new crimes.

Jorge Alcantara Colin is scheduled to be sentenced on Halloween, October 31, in San Diego’s North County Superior Courthouse.
