La Mesa Police were back in action on Friday (June 28) with another zero-tolerance crackdown on speeding drivers within city limits.
“When caught speeding, drivers often ask for just a verbal warning,” says a release from Police Chief Ed Aceves. “Though sometimes appropriate based on the overall circumstances, La Mesa Police Officers said ‘no’ to that request at least 42 times and issued them speeding tickets during Friday’s operation.”
Officers issued another three citations for other violations, and did allow several drivers to escape with just a warning for lesser offenses.
Unlike previous publicized crackdowns in November and again in December, Aceves stopped short of claiming that the total count of traffic tickets issued by his department resulted in an equivalent number of lives being “saved.”
