San Diego Sheriff’s deputies in Santee are crediting a tip received via Facebook for helping them to identify a man associated with a string of robberies occurring near ATM machines in East County. 23 year-old George Adams was arrested yesterday afternoon along the 9600 block of Mission Gorge Road, wearing the same hat and driving the same car captured on bank surveillance photos. He is currently being held on $400,000 bond and faces four robbery charges.
On January 16, authorities believe Adams approached a man at a Mission Federal Credit Union ATM in Santee, brandished a handgun, and demanded that the victim withdraw the maximum allowable from his account, fleeing with the cash. The surveillance photos of the suspect came from this robbery.

On January 21, a suspect matching the description of the previous robber approached a woman at the same Mission Federal ATM. She ran to her car, and saw the suspect fleeing the scene in an older white sedan without money.
A few hours later, the suspect approached a man at a Wells Fargo ATM in the unincorporated El Cajon community of Rancho San Diego. This time he was successful, forcing the victim to withdraw money before escaping.
Yesterday, after seeing a post on the Sheriff’s Facebook page, a woman called the station to report that she had met Adams offering car repairs outside a restaurant. Using the name and phone number he’d given her, deputies were able to set up a meeting that led to the arrest.
