The uptick in San Diego's housing market is one sign of the local economy is on the mend. A more sure fire sign, though, are new proposals from large scale developers to build multi-million dollar mansions in La Jolla.
That's the case for the son of Thomas Sudberry and president of Sudberry Properties, Colton Sudberry and his wife Cyndi.
The couple recently submitted an application to the City of San Diego for permits to build a 15,250 square foot residence in the hills overlooking La Jolla Shores.
In order to make room for the seaside castle the couple looks to demolish two homes, one a 3,150 square-foot 5-bedroom house and an adjacent 4,547 square-foot 4-bedroom home, and turn it into a single 1.01-acre lot.
The existing properties according to online real estate website Zillow are worth a combined $4.9 million.
Heading up the project is architect Ariadne Ferretti from Island Architects. The firm, located in La Jolla, is no stranger to designing homes for La Jolla's wealthiest residents, most notably the now-delayed overhaul of presidential candidate Mitt Romney's beach-front vacation home.

The proposal will be heard by the La Jolla Community Planning Association in the coming months.
