The county Registrar of Voters is scrambling to fill temporary poll worker positions for two upcoming special elections: one to fill the 40th District State Senate seat left vacant when Juan Vargas left to replace Bob Filner in the House of Representatives on March 12 and another on March 26 to fill the 4th City Council spot vacated by Tony Young, who is pursuing a private job with the American Red Cross.
Particularly in demand are bilingual candidates who speak English and Chinese, Filipino, Spanish or Vietnamese.
Poll workers are paid a stipend of between $75 and $175, plus an additional $15 for bilingual workers tagged to provide language assistance to voters. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, registered California voters, and have access to transportation to an assigned polling place.
