Oceanside burglar handed out flyers with her name and phone number

Sentenced to prison for string of first-degree burglaries

A Vista woman passed out “lost dog” flyers, with her true name and phone number, while she was casing homes in Oceanside that she would later burglarize, according to papers in her court file.

Toya Dahl Calderon, 30, was sentenced to 6 years in prison this month, for six counts of residential burglary, which she admitted in a felony guilty plea. She could have gotten more that 16 years prison for the crimes she admitted.

Residents of a senior community in Oceanside notified police that they believed a blonde white female who had been handing out lost dog flyers may have been responsible for a string of burglaries, from May through July, 2012.

Detective Karla Williams investigated, and connected Calderon through fingerprints and stolen jewelry that was recovered from Calderon’s vehicle and home. A prosecutor suggested that Calderon purposely targeted elderly persons who lived in Oceana East Senior Community in Oceanside.

Toya Dahl Calderon is described as a white female with blonde hair and green eyes, standing 5 feet 6 inches tall and 115 pounds, in Sheriff’s records.

Calderon’s defense attorney stated, “She is Bi-Polar and was not taking her medication” when she committed the series of first-degree, residential burglaries.

Attorneys’ statements in her court file reveal that Toya Calderon is married to a man in the military, her 6-year-old daughter is currently living in Utah with her paternal grandparents, and Toya’s mother lives in San Diego County.

The signature “Toya Dahl” is on plea deal paperwork dated November 16, 2012.

Honorable Judge Michael Kirkman pronounced sentence on February 11, 2013, in San Diego’s North County Superior Court. Calderon had 405 days “custody credits” at that time.

The judge ordered Calderon to pay restitution to five victims: $50,000 to Constance, $5,000 to Evangelina, $2,877 to Temecula Jewelry & Coin, $2,000 to Patricia, and $600 to Helga.
