An Escondido man admitted gross vehicular manslaughter, and causing injury to multiple victims, and fleeing after a fatal car crash, in a plea deal in San Diego’s North County Superior Court. Three other felony charges, including DUI charges, were dropped in the deal.
Joshua Milton Goldbaum, 29, was the driver of a Hyundai Sonata that collided with a Ford Aerostar van, after 2:00 a.m., the early morning hours of October 8, 2011. The crash occurred at the corner of Bear Valley Parkway and San Pasqual Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
A woman passenger in the Hyundai, Brianna Kealani Burlington, 21, died at the scene. Another passenger in the Hyundai survived with injuries, and two persons in the Ford van were taken to hospital and survived.
According to the plea deal paperwork, Joshua Milton Goldbaum could have gotten up to 34 years, but in the deal he agreed to 22 years in State prison. In the plea deal paperwork, Goldbaum admitted a “strike prior,” felony assault causing great bodily injury, in 2008.
Prosecutor Matt Greco signed off on the deal January 31, 2013. Formal sentencing is set for March 14, 2013, in the Superior Courthouse in Vista.
