Sheriff’s deputies in Santee are asking victims of recent car burglaries in and around the city to come forward following the arrest of two men suspected of having committed multiple vehicle break-ins in recent weeks.
On the morning of February 11, deputies responded to a call regarding a suspicious person spotted on the 8600 block of Graves Avenue. On arrival, they noticed a car with a broken window, and witnesses reported seeing two men in a green Ford Explorer remove items from the vehicle.
The vehicle was located nearby, its two occupants matching the descriptions provided. A witness later positively identified Hoss Gassaway and Richard Thomas, who were subsequently booked on multiple charges including vehicle burglary.
The suspects were found to be in possession of numerous other items of stolen property, leading authorities to believe they were responsible for other thefts, nine of which had been reported as of Tuesday, February 12.
Anyone else in the area who suffered a loss from a recent car break-in is encouraged to contact the Santee station at (619) 956-4000 to make a report. Deputies are also reminding citizens to ensure their cars are locked and to remove valuables before leaving vehicles unattended.
