An alleged gang member was arraigned on charges of attempted murder and felony assault, in San Diego’s North County Superior Courthouse, late yesterday.
Jorge Alcantara Colin, 21, is accused of driving his car into another man, after that man intervened and stopped Colin battering a woman, according to a prosecutor.
Sheriff’s deputies reported two weeks ago, on January 21, that a man joined neighbors to rescue a woman being abused and then got smashed between two cars -- when the alleged abuser returned and rammed the rescuer with his Mitsubishi sedan.
It was near the corner of Rue de Valle and Margie Place, in San Marcos, where the victim was pinned against his own truck parked at the curb, and suffered “serious injuries to his leg,” according to a Sheriff’s statement.
Prosecutor Matt Greco is alleging that Jorge Alcantara Colin has a prior conviction for gang crimes, and that conviction was less than one year ago, and Colin was out on parole at the time of the new incident.
A well-placed source stated that the defendant is a member of the Varrio San Marcos street gang. The alleged gangster is also named as Jorge Colin Alcantara, in court papers.
Superior Court Judge Marshall Hockett set bail at $500,000, ordered the defendant held to answer one charge of attempted murder and two felony assault charges, and set Colin's next court date for February 19.
