Baja California officials stated at a press conference on Monday, February 4th, that they are working to dismantle a sex trafficking ring that is run by organizations from Mexico City and the state of Puebla. Rommel Moreno Manjarez, the head state prosecutor, stated multiple investigations are underway into the workings of the network. Moreno Manjarez also stated that since the beginning of 2012, officials have rescued 116 women who were victims of sex trafficking.
Moreno Manjarez went on to explain that the majority of the women are between the ages of 25 and 45, and are typically from the Oaxaca and Tlaxcala areas. The vast majority of the women are brought to Tijuana for prostitution, with a smaller amount being taken into the United States.
